Batik fabrics from Indonesia are textiles produced using a traditional dyeing technique in which patterns are created by applying wax before the fabric is dyed. This process, which originated on the Indonesian island of Java, protects the waxed areas from the dye and gives the fabric unique, detailed patterns. The technique is recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity.
